W.O.R.K. PROGRAM AGAIN IMPROVES COUNTY

The Work Opportunities Reaching Kids (W.O.R.K.) Program is again making numerous improvements throughout the county during the summer months.

As part of the Summer Youth Program operated out of the Guernsey County Opportunity Center, the W.O.R.K. Program consists of a Community Project Team that works on a variety of improvement projects in a number of communities during the summer.

Among the duties that are being completed by the crew include painting, mowing and weed trimming, trash pick-up, and general clean-up, among others.

Over the summer, the crew visited Old Washington, Fairview, Salt Fork State Park, the Guernsey County Fairgrounds, Byesville, Seneca Lake, Cumberland, Deerassic Park, Cambridge City Schools, and the City of Cambridge.

In addition to the W.O.R.K. Crew, the Summer Youth Program employs 147 youth at 57 worksites throughout county.

The program runs from June 21 – August 13, and a two-week Leadership Program consisting of eleven students took place from June 14 – 25.

Some of the new worksites this year consisted of:  Cambridge Packaging; Colgate Palmolive; Ohio Bridge; Edgetech/LMI; Parkside Tasty Treat; Colonel Taylor Inn; Chamber of Commerce; Deerassic Park; K&S Construction; Main Street School Supply; Mr. Lee’s Restaurant; Moore Bros. Hardware; Rasor’s Drive-In; Extreme Motor Sports; Yoker Valley Farms; PDQ Florist; and West 40Buy-Pay Here.
