FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 29, 2011 LONGTIME GCDJFS EMPLOYEE RETIRES A longtime employee of the Guernsey County Department of Job and Family Services is retiring. Pam Thompson, the Operations Director for the Agency, is moving-on after 30-years of service. Thompson began her employment with the Agency in July 1978 through the CETA program, left for a short period of time, then returned in October 1982, and has been there ever since. During Thompson’s tenure, she worked under 6 different directors, 17 county commissioners, known 212 different employees, and witnessed many changes and advancements within the Agency. Over the years, Thompson has held a variety of positions at the Agency including a typist, account clerk administrative assistant, and fiscal officer. Thompson is described by co-workers as being extremely knowledgeable and ethical in her work, and is considered both a mentor and friend to all. When asked about her time at GCDJFS, Thompson simply stated, “It’s been a ride. We have had our ups and downs, but we’re all still here to talk about it.” Thompson says that she also feels very fortunate. “I’ve enjoyed it all, and I have been able to do what I love.” She then concluded by expressing her gratitude to her fellow workers, “This is a great place to work, and it has been an honor to serve with you guys. It has been a real pleasure.” Thompson says she plans to spend more time at home and with family, do some traveling, and get back to one her greatest loves – music. A reception was held in Thompson’s honor on Wednesday, September 28 at the Agency; complete with a cake, gifts and cards thanking her for her years of dedication and commitment to helping the families of Guernsey County. Thompson’s last official day of work is September 30.
